Pike Lake was one awesome ride Dasie told me, it was her first ride of the year, she said trails were just beautiful, ferns on both sides of the trail. Trails were not too muddy, fairly dry, large rocks. Tanglewoods (campgrounds) was not very full, 4 tent campers, 3 OHC rigs from Clermont County. The people leasing Tanglewoods have had 3 small cabins erected in campgrounds to rent. I was also told that you never know what you miss on the trails until you are back out on trails riding them. Peace and quiet, some ground bees on a section of trail, horses did okay. Then later a deer was on horse trail but horses only jumped a little. Moss on trees, lots of wildflowers. Pike great job on trails. Looked like Pike has had a lot of trees down like we have had at Eastfork. Thunder was booming while the crew was riding, made it back to camp 45 minutes before it rained. Everyone had lunch and a nice nap. Poured rain LaWana and Dee’s campsite almost washed away!

The horse show was well attended rigs from Dayton, Midland, Kentucky and local. Several OHC members showed, and plenty of members helped work the gates and entry booth, and members in the announcer booth. The 4-H also gave us considerable help Sue Adams was a great help organizing the entry booth and Juantia Benton was a great announcer like always, thanks everyone that showed, helped, donated, etc. Quite a few members donated pop, buns, napkins, condiments, and cash. The club made about $1,000.00 and F.O.F. made the same amount. This would be a good fund raiser to try again if Vickie and Katie would want to work that hard again, great job girls! The photographer for the show was Keli Bruns if someone wants to buy photos from the show Keli has them on her website Vickie has address 513-724-8474.

On a sad note Sue Adams the Clermont County 4-H president and Tuff Competitiors advisor passed away on August 3rd she had several heart attacks, Sue will be greatly missed by Clermont County 4-H and all of her friends and family. 4-H in the County will not be the same without Sue’s knowledge and help.

Don Wyatt has been in the hospital, we are all praying for you Don. Charlie Barger had a pace maker installed. That makes 2 members with pace makers Edna Mullins had one installed earlier in the year also.

Zaleski ride was well attended, on the Saturday ride to Uncle Buck’s 13 people were on the ride, Tim Applegate led the crew. It was a 14 mile ride. Tim took a kick in the leg at a State Ride earlier in the year so he had a rod in his leg. Thanks Tim for being trail boss. Ground bees are a real nuisance this year on the way back the group ran into some ground bees Dasie’s mule started moving on and Jack went to grab her reins and it unbalanced him he did a somersault over the hill. After a few minutes he moved scared everyone since he just laid there but he was okay except sore on shoulder and neck. Maybe since Darrell Ernest was riding with the group and he did a similar fall at Pike a month ago this might be contagious. This is just a great place to ride some mud but for the rain we have had not too bad. If you have never been to Zaleski you are missing a great place close to home to ride. Just make sure if you take a large group call a month ahead and reserve the special events field.

One word of advice to horse back riders at Eastfork State Park stay off the bridge on the portion of Hike Bike Trail with the new bridge tickets will be given.

State Ride is September 24th -27th on Sunday their will be a Cowboy Church and Iron skillet sausage gravey cook-off. Anybody that would like to help has any ideas call Dasie at 513-876-3956. Need someone to help with selling split the pot tickets, help with silent auction it will be done a little differently this year selling tickets. Need donations, need fliers put out at your tack and feed stores, need feed donated for prizes from places where you get your feed. Gift certificates etc. This money all goes back into our trails at Eastfork. Come and enjoy the meal on Saturday $5.00 charge per person not camped and bring a covered dish. Saturday there will be a band. Come on out and join us, lots of things going on and there will be a silly hat ride again this year so get your thinking hats on. The camping fee for the weekend is $20.00 primative sites water furnished for animals hope to have more added tie rails, Friday a huge pot of chili bring cheese crackers or onions. Saturday steamboat roast etc bring covered dish. Saturday CB Barger will lead a group around the lake with his side kick Corie. This is a strenuous ride so have a conditioned horse and rider. Also a poker ride you can ride or stay at camp and buy a hand. Bring your lawn chairs if coming to eat and set around campfire and listen to band. Hope to see ya there. Have some great rides until then.
